World Suicide Prevention Day

What is World Suicide Prevention Day?

On September 10th, people around the world come together to observe World Suicide Prevention Day. This event serves as a poignant reminder of the importance of mental health and the urgent need to globally reduce suicide numbers.

By breaking the silence surrounding suicide and mental health issues,  and by increasing awareness, we can reduce the stigma associated with this and make it easier for individuals to find help.

One of the key messages of World Suicide Prevention Day is hope, and creating this via  actions is vital.

It is everyone’s responsibility to  be aware of suicide – we can all play a role in reducing  suicide by supporting those around us. Simple acts of kindness, listening without judgment, and offering a shoulder to lean on can make a significant difference to someone struggling with their mental health.

Globally, more than 700,000 people take their own lives  each year, ranking among the leading causes of death worldwide.

Currently in the UK , 200 school children also take their own lives. These sobering figures underline a pressing issue: many individuals, especially among the younger generation, struggle to access the vital mental health interventions they need. Contributing factors  including extensive waiting lists for these essential services, leaving  individuals highly vulnerable  and without the urgent support they require

Cavendish Homecare hosted an afternoon awareness session, where everyone got together to have some sweet treats. The event was also in support of our charity partner, Cruse Bereavement, who provide vital bereavement support for anyone suffering the loss of a loved one.
