Stoma care is aimed at providing comprehensive support and advice to new and long term stoma patients. A stoma care nurse or carer will show you how to care for your stoma, change and empty the appliance and give advise on your diet, returning to work and any common stoma-related concerns that may arise.

Stoma care is necessary for anyone that has undergone an operation to create a stoma. This will be anyone with a colostomy, ileostomy or urostomy. If you have recently undergone surgery, stoma care after surgery is crucial to help maintain the health of the site and support you during this change.

The purpose of stoma care is to ensure that you are able to manage the condition while maintaining a high quality of life. This will extend to a holistic approach and include lifestyle guidance, psychological support and ongoing care. The ultimate aim is to empower you to lead a comfortable, independent and active life.

Having a stoma might require some adjustments initially, but it shouldn’t significantly limit your daily activities. If you’re active, you can still enjoy most sports and hobbies. While extreme contact sports are best avoided, there are special support garments, caps, and bags designed for stoma wearers during physical activity.

For travel, post surgery, you are at a higher risk of deep vein thrombosis (DVT) and should consult with your doctor before any air travel and obtain a travel certificate. Remember to pack enough supplies for the time away and be prepared for more bag changes while travelling.

Adjusting to life with a stoma may be daunting at first. But, with the right support, stoma care will become a part of your daily routine while you enjoy a fulfilling life. Support from a private stoma nurse can help ease this transition so you can get back to feeling like yourself again.

I booked a private nurse from Cavendish Homecare on the day my mum died to stay by her bedside while she was in a side room in Charing Cross hospital I was on my own, exhausted, frightened of what might happen, and had to go home that evening to sleep. From the moment Arrah (nurse) entered my mums room, she brought a calm, gentle presence, explained clearly what was happening, and did everything she could to keep Mum comfortable and dignified I said goodbye to mum and Arrah was with her during her last breaths that evening.  Trustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. I have been diagnosed with sleep apnoea and, to get my driving licence back, need to contol it, and for that, I need a mask. The Professor to whom I was referred issued me with a Fisher & Paykel Simplus mask, which, while I was wearing it, did prevent me from suffering sleep apnoea; but only by preventing me from getting to sleep in the first place - obviously, for sleep apnoea to happen, the patient has to be asleep in the first place!  Supervisor Cathrina from Cavendish (who look after me) decided to send me one of their nurses, Nurse Edna (Pardenas), who confirmed that I was handling the mask correctly; but its shape is totally unsuitable for someone with a nose as large as mine (It isn't that large. Any manufacturer with more of a conscience than F&P would have put the relevant health warning on that particular piece of kit). Cavendish, in general, and in particular Nurse Edna are to be commended for this first step towards my effective treatment (I didn't need her for the subsequent steps that led to identifying the BMC F6 hybrid mask as one that works for me).

Denise was able to put in place 24/7 care within hours of me calling her.  She sent Jonathan and Michael to us. They treated my uncle, in his own words, “like a king,” and he could not have been in better hands as his condition changed and deteriorated. We contacted them in a crisis, as gaps and stretched capacity within the NHS meant that my Aunty's final days were not proving painfree and dignified. She went to great efforts, and we had a night nurse to our home within hours. The care we received from nurses Clarita, Jean and Gemma was beyond exceptional. My mother fell and broke her hip.so was bedbound.She did not want to go into hospltal and said she wanted to die at home with my father and the family around her.They had a live in carer but we needed a night nurse.Their care company couldn't provide one so my sister contacted Mairead who couldn't have been more helpful.She sorted out a night nurse for that night and on going until Mum sadly passed away.She kept in contact so we knew exactly what was going on.Communication was brilliant.It meant we had peace of mind that Mum wouldn't be in pain over night and she passed away peacefully.Thank you Mairead and your nurses from all the family.

Her carers’ concern for her mental and physical wellbeing was unstinting. They fully respected her need to remain as independent and private as possible whilst ensuring she was safe and comfortable. They anticipated her needs so that we were able to plan ahead and ensure we had all necessary support in place as she declined. They were also very kind to me and kept me constantly updated when I could not be with her myself. This is a very painful procedure: the first time I had it done (by a different nurse) it was so painful I actually cried. But Arrah, the nurse who was provided for me by Cavendish Homecare, was so gentle and kind that she made the whole process much more bearable. She kept up a steady stream of friendly chit-chat, to distract me from the horrible business at hand, and was always very sensitive to my pain levels. She looked after me so well that the wound healed much faster than expected. The whole thing has took a month and a half, instead of the predicted three months. The enquiry process - What to expect

Initial Enquiry

An initial enquiry is taken when you call on behalf of yourself or someone else. An initial enquiry can be via a phone call, submitting a contact form or an email. Your enquiry is then picked up by the office team who will gather the information and pass it through to one of our nurse managers.

Call Back from Nurse Manager

One of the experienced nurse managers will give you a call back to discuss the needs in more detail and to provide their expert recommendation on the care that may be required. They will then discuss with you, what Cavendish Homecare may be able to provide, what the cost is, and what timescale we would be able to commence your care.

Selection of Staff

Once an initial agreement is established, the nursing manager will start working with the bookings team to determine the most suitable nurse and/or carer are best matched with your needs.

Proposed Agreement

Following the tailored care recommendation and the selection of staff. We ensure you (the client) are happy with the proposed course of action and the care is able to commence. In some cases, an assessment visit may be required and this will be undertaken by one of our nurse managers.

Active Client

You will begin receiving outstanding homecare from our team, tailored to your needs. Your care plan will be under constant review to ensure the correct level of care is addressing your needs and being provided at all times.
