Environmental Sustainability & Sustainable Development Policy
Policy Statement
Cavendish Homecare is committed to meeting the needs of our service users without compromising the ability of future generations to meet theirs. We recognise that climate change is a significant threat to health and aim to provide high-quality, low-carbon care that benefits both our staff and the communities we serve.
Carbon Reduction & Travel
As a mobile service, our primary environmental impact is transportation.
We will:
- Optimise Routing: Use digital scheduling software to minimize mileage between care visits.
- Promote Green Travel: Encourage staff to use public transport, carpooling, walking, or cycling where feasible.
- Reduce Unnecessary Journeys: Use virtual technology for staff meetings and training to decrease business miles.
Resource Management & Waste
- Digital Transformation: Maintain a paperless office environment by using digital care records, cloud storage, and secure electronic signatures.
- Waste Reduction: Implement the “3 Rs” (Reduce, Reuse, Recycle) in office and care practices, specifically targeting a reduction in single-use plastics such as disposable gloves when not clinically required.
- Sustainable Procurement: Prioritize local suppliers to reduce delivery emissions and select partners with proven eco-friendly credentials.
Sustainable Healthcare Delivery
- Preventative Care: Focus on health promotion and preventative measures to reduce the long-term resource demand of intensive healthcare interventions.
- Empowering Service Users: Support clients in making sustainable choices at home, such as reducing energy waste or participating in nature-based activities.
Staff Engagement & Training
- Awareness: Provide mandatory sustainability training to help staff understand how their roles impact the environment.
- Leadership: Appoint a “Green Champion” to oversee initiatives and ensure that sustainability is embedded in our governance and leadership culture.
Monitoring and Compliance
- Audits: Conduct annual environmental audits to assess our carbon footprint and track progress against reduction targets.
- Review: This policy will be reviewed at least every 3 years or in line with new statutory guidance from the CQC or Skills for Care.
