Fire Policy
Purpose
It is the policy of Cavendish Homecare Professionals to assign great importance to the safety of its employees, visitors and temporary workers. This is a management responsibility equal to that of any other management function. Management will do everything that is reasonably practicable to prevent any cause or outbreak of fire in and around the work premises. To this end, management will provide such training and equipment as is necessary to enable staff to work safely and ensure the office is as safe from fire as it can possibly be. Management will also make staff aware of their individual responsibility to care for themselves and others as well as co-operate with management in matters of fire safety as defined by the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974 Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005.
Responsibility
Cavendish Professionals Directors and Managers are responsible for ensuring that here are effective arrangements in place for the prevention, control and handling of fire accidents in the workplace.
Employees are expected to behave and take reasonable responsibility and care of their own safety at work and create a safe working environment.
Actions
Cavendish Homecare Professionals carries out such assessment as may be necessary for the identification of hazards and the control of risks related with fire.
Smoking is prohibited within the office working area.
Good housekeeping will lower the chances of aa fire starting so the accumulation of any combustible material must be monitored carefully. It is Cavendish Homecare Professionals’ obligation to keep escape routes and fire doors unblocked and unobstructed and waste material in suitable containers.
In the event of fire staff must –
- attack the fire with appliances provided, without taking personal risk
- if the above is not successful, immediately operate the nearest alarm call
- dial 999
- leave the building via the fire exist if the fire alarm sounds
- close all doors on exit
- report to the allocated Fire Warden at the Fire mustering location
Review
The Fire Policy will be reviewed annually to ensure it is up to date and that all the necessary information is according to the Health and Safety at Work 1974, Management Regulations 1994, Fire Safety at Work 1974, Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005, Electricity at Work Regulation 1989 and British Standards.
