Pre-Treatment Assessment Visit for IV Infusions Procedure

Process

Cavendish Homecare to take client’s details and determine if we are able to assist.

Client to be given a quote for a Pre-Treatment Assessment visit by the RN. ? £150

RN to visit and complete the following during the assessment –

Checklist

• Diagnosis & PMH
• Confirm what drug is to be infused and why
• Is this the first time the patient has received the drug?
• Prescription for Medication
• Prescription / order for IV fluids eg. flush, heparin
• Equipment including cannula, butterfly, needle, giving set
• Pump / syringe driver required?
• Dedicated area where infusion is to be given identified eg.bedroom
• Sterile field able to be established, including using dressing pack
• Venous access – expected ease / difficulty of cannulation
• Anticipated visit time needed for each infusion

Post visit

RN to feedback findings to Cavendish Homecare including –

• Viability of cannulation
• Prescription in order and legitimate in the UK
• List of equipment needed
• Expected time each visit will take

Report to patient

Inform patient if we are able to proceed or not, and if yes provide a quote for the cost of any equipment and the rate per visit.
