“We are very pleased with the nurses who have taken care of my father”

Ryan was already living with progressive Alzheimer and Parkinson’s disease when the serious fall was sustained at his home in Barnet, which resulted in him banging his head, causing a concussion, cerebral bleed and a crushed spine.

Ryan’s family sought skilled nursing care and to give them “peace of mind”, particularly at night as he experienced distressing symptoms due to cognitive deteriorations.

Our Client’s Story…

Ryan used a Zimmer frame when mobilising but required reminders to walk slowly. He also faced cognitive challenges such as confusion and a loss of words at times. The nurses were able to anticipate this, regularly assessing and prompting Ryan with all of his daily tasks – supporting and enabling him to feel safe.

Ryan also had a urinary catheter, so the nurses ensured safe catheter care, with supervision at all times to ensure that he did not accidentally remove this. They also encouraged him to have regular fluids and monitored the need for analgesia.

The Cavendish Approach…

Ryan’s care plan focused on his safety and comfort during his recovery. This included encouraging mobility while reducing the risk of falls. The nurses supported Ryan’s cognitive functions with clear communication. The team also prevented further complications with diligent catheter care, while also monitoring for signs of distress. Ryan’s hydration and nutritional intake was regularly assessed, with encouragement given, all while respecting his wishes.

The Outcome…

Cavendish Homecare effectively addressed Ryan’s complex needs following the hospital discharge. The team provided skilled Parkinson’s nursing night care, managing his and cognitive deterioration due to Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s disease and physical injuries from the fall. The comprehensive care plan ensured Ryan’s safety and comfort, and the team was instrumental in remobilising him, supporting his wellbeing and providing his family with much-needed peace of mind.

“Your Nurses cared so well for Mum. Small things such as brushing her hair regularly, massaging her feet, hands and head, talking to her and taking her non-verbal cues into account.”
