“We are very pleased with the nurses who have taken care of my father”

The client was already living with progressive Alzheimer and Parkinson’s disease when the serious fall was sustained at home, which resulted in the client banging their head, causing a concussion, cerebral bleed and a crushed spine.

The client’s family sought skilled nursing care and to give the family “peace of mind”, particularly at night as the client experienced distressing symptoms due to cognitive deteriorations.

Our Client’s Story…

The client used a Zimmer frame when mobilising but required reminders to walk slowly. The client also faced cognitive challenges such as confusion and a loss of words at times. The nurses were able to anticipate this, regularly assessing and prompting the client with all of their daily tasks – supporting and enabling the client to feel safe.

This client also had a urinary catheter, so the nurses ensured safe catheter care, with supervision at all times to ensure that the client did not accidentally remove this. They also encouraged the client to have regular fluids and monitored the need for analgesia.

The Cavendish Approach…

The client’s care plan focused on their safety and comfort during their recovery. This included encouraging mobility while reducing the risk of falls. The nurses supported the client’s cognitive functions with clear communication. The team also prevented further complications with diligent catheter care, while also monitoring for signs of distress. The client’s hydration and nutritional intake was regularly assessed, with encouragement given, all while respecting the client’s wishes.

The Outcome…

Cavendish Homecare effectively addressed the client’s complex needs following the hospital discharge. The team provided skilled Parkinson’s nursing night care, managing the client’s and cognitive deterioration due to Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s disease and physical injuries from the fall. The comprehensive care plan ensured the client’s safety and comfort, and the team was instrumental in remobilizing the client, supporting their well-being and providing the family with much-needed peace of mind.

“Your Nurses cared so well for Mum. Small things such as brushing her hair regularly, massaging her feet, hands and head, talking to her and taking her non-verbal cues into account.”
