It has been 18 years since the Dignity in Care campaign was launched in November 2006. The aim of this cause is to put dignity and respect at the heart of UK care services. The campaign’s core values are about having dignity in our hearts, minds and actions, changing the culture of health and care services, and placing a greater emphasis on improving the quality and experience of care.
First Dignity Action Day took place on the 26th February 2010. It’s aim was to inspire health and social care staff and local people to place dignity, kindness, respect and compassion at the heart of health and social care services and in their communities. Dignity Action Month of February raises awareness of the role of everyone in upholding dignity. It emphasises that everyone has a role to play in promoting dignity, not just healthcare professionals.
Dignity Action Month of February aims to create a culture of care where dignity is at the heart of every interaction and decision. It serves as a reminder that treating people with dignity is not just a nice thing to do, but a fundamental human right. This includes families, friends, and community members.
