Our Client’s Story…
Zack’s Parkinson’s had advanced, causing severe stiffness and reduced mobility. His dementia was also worsening. He became increasingly forgetful, confused, and at times disoriented, struggling to recognise people or his surroundings. He experienced hypertension-related headaches and developed dysphagia, which made eating and swallowing difficult and increased his risk of choking. Double incontinence and reduced ability to communicate added further complexity to his care.
The Cavendish Approach…
Cavendish Homecare provided Zack with a consistent, compassionate team of carers experienced in managing Parkinson’s and dementia. His medications, including Madopar, were amended and authorised by the GP to given in liquid form. All meals were puréed, with high-calorie drinks offered daily to support nutrition and weight maintenance. Carers monitored him closely during meals, ensuring upright positioning and slow, careful feeding.
Pain was managed with Lidocaine patches, applied and changed regularly. Continence care was delivered with dignity, using pads, commodes, and medication where necessary to support bowel health. Personal care respected Zack’s independence and preferences. Due to high fall risk, carers remained vigilant, with regular supervision and safety checks throughout his home.
To support Zack’s emotional wellbeing, he was encouraged to engage in familiar activities such as listening to music, enjoying local outings in his wheelchair, and spending time with friends and family. His family remained closely involved in his care.
The Outcome…
With Cavendish Homecare’s support, Zack remained safely at home in a familiar and supportive environment. His care was tailored to his complex needs, delivered with consistency, empathy, and clinical expertise. This approach ensured Zack’s safety and comfort while supporting his family through a challenging time.
