What do our Live-In Care Services include?

At Cavendish Homecare, live-in care includes a range of specialist, at-home services designed to help you live a full and independent life in the comfort of your own home. Our service is based on a tailored, patient-centred approach that provides 24-hour support from a professionally trained nurse or carer living with you.

A comprehensive and holistic approach

Live-in care provides a comprehensive and flexible approach, with a dedicated nurse or carer providing bespoke support that is responsive to your unique needs. This holistic style of care fosters your independence, offers companionship, and provides crucial emotional support. By having consistent help in your home, we ensure stability and peace of mind for both you and your loved ones. This is particularly valuable for those with dementia, as staying in a familiar environment is comforting and can significantly reduce distress.

Matching you with the right carer

Finding the right carer is central to the success of live-in care. We take the time to understand your needs, personality, and lifestyle before selecting the most suitable nurse or carer from our team. This careful matching process helps ensure a strong working relationship from day one — one built on trust, compatibility, and a shared understanding of your goals and preferences. If at any point you feel the match isn’t right, we will work quickly to find you a more suitable carer. Your comfort and confidence in your care team is our priority.

Benefits of Live-In Care

Our live-in care services are designed to support your independence, wellbeing, and quality of life – in the home you know and love.

  • Remain at home – stay surrounded by familiar comforts, cherished memories, and your social connections, without the upheaval of moving into residential care.
  • One-to-one, personalised support – dedicated care tailored entirely to your routines, preferences, and needs, with no shared rotas or split attention. Unlike daily care visits, a live-in carer is always present in your home, meaning support is available at any hour without the gaps between visits.
  • Care for couples – when one or both partners need support, a single live-in carer can support both individuals under one arrangement, keeping couples together at home.
  • Family reassurance – with care provided in your home, your family remains an integral part of daily life, with full visibility of the care being delivered.
  • Reduced health risks – avoiding communal living environments significantly lowers exposure to infections and hospital-acquired conditions.
  • Continuity of care – a consistent, familiar carer or nurse means stable routines, stronger relationships, and a higher standard of care over time.

The cost of live-in care

The cost of live-in care varies depending on the level of support required, the complexity of care needs, and the qualifications of the nurse or carer involved. It is typically quoted as a weekly all-inclusive fee, making it straightforward to plan and budget for. In many cases, live-in care is comparable in cost to a residential care home — and for couples sharing a carer, it can represent a more cost-effective arrangement. For those with significant health needs, funding may be available through NHS Continuing Healthcare (CHC) or local authority support, subject to assessment. We recommend speaking with our team directly for a personalised cost discussion based on your specific circumstances. It is also worth noting that live-in carers require a private bedroom and access to meals or meal preparation facilities; in most cases, food costs are the responsibility of the client and are not included within the care fee.

FAQ

Live-in care is a form of home care where a professionally trained nurse or carer moves into your home to provide round-the-clock support. It allows you to remain in the comfort and familiarity of your own home while receiving the level of care you need, whether that’s help with daily living, personal care, medication management or complex nursing support. Unlike care homes, live-in care is entirely one-to-one and tailored around your individual routines and preferences.

The process begins with a conversation with our team to understand your needs, preferences and circumstances. We then develop a personalised care plan and carefully match you with a suitable nurse or carer. Once in place, your carer lives with you full time, providing 24 hour live-in care and adjusting the support they offer as your needs evolve. Our nurse-led management team remains in close contact throughout to oversee your care and offer guidance to your family.

A live-in carer provides comprehensive, day-to-day support including personal care (washing, dressing, and grooming), medication management, meal preparation, housekeeping, companionship, and mobility assistance. For those with more complex needs, our live-in nurses can also provide clinical care such as wound management, condition monitoring, and medication administration. The scope of support is always shaped by your care plan and personal preferences

24 hour live-in care provides continuous, around-the-clock support from a nurse or carer who lives in your home. It is particularly suited to those with complex health conditions, severe disabilities, dementia, or those recovering from a serious illness or surgery. A live-in carer typically works up to 10 hours of active care per day, but remains in the home throughout — available to assist whenever needed. At night, your carer is on hand to respond to any needs that arise; whether they sleep lightly or remain awake depends on your assessed care requirements. Live-in carers are legally entitled to a daily break of around two hours. During this time, we ensure continuity of support is arranged so you are never left without cover.

Our live-in care services cater to range of needs, from general age-related conditions to more specific conditions such as dementia, Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s. Our team of nurses and carers possess a diverse range of skills and are fully equipped to provide care for a range of conditions.

All Cavendish Homecare carers have an enhanced DBS registration, maintain their mandatory training requirements and CPD, undertake regular occupational health checks, have 2 verified references and participate in annual appraisals.

All Cavendish Homecare nurses will have the above and are also registered with the Nursing and Midwifery council (NMC).

Funding for live-in care depends on your financial circumstances and the local authority’s assessment of your needs. Some individuals may be eligible for local authority funding or NHS Continuing Healthcare (CHC) if they have significant health needs. Others may be self-funding. We recommend contacting your local council for a care needs assessment, and we are happy to advise on the options available to you during our initial consultation.
